Why do Chinese festivals move each year?
Most dates in this selection follow a lunar month and day. Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, their Gregorian dates shift between years. Qingming follows a solar term instead, so its rule is different. Avoid using one fixed lunar date for every festival.
Festival dates, public holidays and events
This is a cultural date guide, not a country-specific public-holiday list. Time off depends on local law and official announcements. Race days, parades and lantern displays can take place on nearby dates. Confirm each organizer’s schedule before making travel plans.
Names you may encounter in Indonesia
Chinese New Year is often called Imlek, Lantern Festival is known as Cap Go Meh, and Qingming may appear as Cheng Beng or Ceng Beng. These alternate names can help you connect English guides with Indonesian family and community announcements.
